The town of Bridport is situated between Dorchester and Lyme Regis and along with West Bay, is a historic haven for all. As Bridport and West Bay are situated along the Jurassic coast it is a popular seas side resort, with its beach and lively harbour. Fans of the soap Harbour lights may recognise West Bay as the soap staring Nick Berry was filmed in Bridport, West Bay and the surrounding area.
Bridport is best known for its rope making and this tradition is still visible in the town with the museum in the town centre and on the industrial estate there is still a highly successful rope and net making company who regularly make goal nets for teams in the English football premier league.
For a great day out in Bridport you could spend your time in the museum or travel to any of the beautiful surrounding villages. Burton Bradstock has a popular beach and with the fantastic facilities of Hyde beach café, is a great day out.
Or for the fans of film and art you could watch a variety of films and theatrical performances at the arts centre and afterwards relax in one of Bridport’s many friendly pubs where you can sample some of Dorset’s Palmers Beer and Ale which is also brewed in Bridport. For the sport lovers you can use the excellent facilities at the Bridport Leisure Centre, or if watching is more your thing you can watch the Football team or the Rugby team who play at the leisure centre. After your afternoon of sport you could then visit Tanners sports bar situated in the town for a relaxing drink while watching your favourite sport. For a great night out you can find a fantastic atmosphere in any of the fourteen pubs dotted around Bridport’s town centre. One of the more popular pubs is the Number 10 bar and the Beach and Barnicott, where you can sample live music most nights of the week. Bridport has something for everyone and with West Bay in easy distance it is a picturesque seaside town. |
